A good Monday morning to all. Time for the 90th Infantry Division Pic of the Week. A group that certainly doesn’t get the credit they deserve are the brave Piper Cub pilots of World War II. They did so much, always at extreme risk, to aid their buddies on the ground.

World War II Promise Fulfilled, Some 67 Years Later

Captain Robert McHolland commanded K Company, 358th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division, during World War II. McHolland and his unit, better known as the “Kraut Killers”, fought in Patton’s Third Army across Northern Europe. Along the way, McHolland picked up an antique French pistol for a friend back home. Prior to war, though he lived in [...]
Happy Fourth of July! Independence Day on a Monday, and time for the 90th Infantry Division Pic of the Week. I love this shot–a truly iconic photo of Father Le Courtois, parish priest at St. Jores, France, looking at the battle damage to the church and adjacent graveyard. The picture was taken on July 7, [...]
Uncommonly Hobert: An Old Gaelic Blessing
June 21, 2011
This past weekend, I came across a scrap of paper, stuffed in an old book. Immediately, I knew the source. It was obviously an interesting tidbit given to me years ago by my pal and BOOTPRINTS author, Hobert Winebrenner, and cause for another installment of the post thread, Uncommonly Hobert. Today, June 6th, marks the 67th anniversary of D-Day–the Allied invasion of Normandy Beach, France during World War II. In honor of the event, all our posts this week will be D-Day related. This Monday’s 90th Infantry Division Pic of the Week features a shot of recently arrived infantrymen pouring into the French countryside. The [...]

May 31, 2011
What a beautiful day we had yesterday in Albion, Indiana! The weather could not have been better. After what has seemed like months of nearly continuous rain, the clouds broke to offer a sunny and warm morning for the Memorial Day Parade. And what a parade it was! It keeps getting bigger and better each [...]
90th Infantry Division Pic of the Week: Foy, Belgium
May 30, 2011
This Monday’s 90th Infantry Division Pic of the Week features a sobering shot from the U.S. Military Cemetery at Foy, Belgium. Row after row of fresh graves follow the Battle of the Bulge. Crosses mark Christian sites, while the Star of David adorns the remains of Jewish soldiers. This Memorial Day, may we be especially [...]
