Weekly History Wrap-Up: 01/07/11.

What happened this week in history?  Anything interesting?  Hells yes!

The History Junkie loves historical artifacts.  But I must confess that I hadn’t heard of this hidden treasure trove, The Military Museum of North Florida.  I’m definitely stopping in the next time I’m in the Sunshine state.

Sad to see that the original model for the “Rosie the Riveter” posters of World War II, Geraldine Hoff Doyle, died at age 86.  How about that female “gun show”?

Or maybe the History of the World in 100 Objects?  What a great idea!  Now that’s some old stuff.

Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, or should I say, former governor, took a pass on a pardon for legendary outlaw, Billy the Kid.  Yeah, I guess he’s no Robin Hood.

Of course, the History Junkie is Scottish (Go Glasgow Rangers!) by ancestry and can never pass up a good story from the homeland.  Edinburgh World War I soldier, Charles Fox was killed in Northern France.  The owner of the farm on which Fox died, Didier Godderis, desired to find the family and conduct a proper memorial ceremony.  The search has ended successfully!

And lastly, how about the murder of former Special Assistant, John P. Wheeler?  There seems to be a bit more to this one than meets the eye.

Have a great weekend! HJ over and out!
