Letters From War Wednesday: Vietnam War – Bruce Eamick.

Vietnam War infantryman, Bruce Eamick, served with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division.  His group worked the volatile Central Highland jungles near the Cambodian border.

“We’ve been pretty busy lately,” Eamick wrote to his mother on July 13, 1969. “For the last week we’ve been building a platoon size patrol base and have been working out of there, pulling ambush patrols and local riffs. Our platoon just came back into Tay Ninh today, and I guess we’ll be working out of here for awhile.  We’ve got two patrol bases with a platoon at each of them plus our platoon in here, so the company is all split up.

“…I arrived in Vietnam on November 5 so I leave here on November 4 and should be home by the 8th.  Only 114 days left in country.

“…I got my Bronze Star with “V” device for “valor” two days ago.  …I’m having it sent to Nanc (wife).  As soon as I get the Purple Heart, I’ll send it to you Mom.  OK?

“…Well I’ll close for now cause it’s 11 p.m. and I’ve got to get up at 6 a.m. in the morning cause we’re going to be on River Patrol with the Navy tomorrow.”

Sadly, Bruce Eamick would not make it home alive.  Eamick was killed at Fire Support Base Washington less than a month after writing this letter, on August 8, 1969.
