Wow! Here it is–one of my favorite 90th ID pics of all time. In this edition of the 90th Infantry Division Pic of the Week, we feature a shot of a mortar crew near Halstroff, France.

I recently came across this interesting item. It appears to be a dinner menu from the 90th Infantry Division’s return to Normandy, marking the 35th Anniversary of D-Day. This particular celebration was obviously taking place at Sainte-Marie-du-Mont. I wonder how many of those in attendance on June 6, 1979 are still with us today. Sadly, [...]

This edition of Letters From War Wednesday features a short note home, dated October 1942, from Private David Kline, serving with Company A, 326th Glider Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division. “I am writing you this evening to let you know that I have finally moved. I arrived here at Fort Bragg Monday morning. We were 65 [...]

Last week, we brought you a couple of posts on the passing of John Mateyko, former commanding officer of Company M, 358th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division. Mateyko and Hobert Winebrenner worked often together during the war as captain and sergeant, respectively. They formed a special bond, that would last well after war’s end. In his [...]

The town of Troisvierges, in northern Luxembourg, marks the location of the beginning of the fight along the Western Front in World War I. In this edition of the 90th Infantry Division Pic of the Week, we see that Troisvierges fared little better in World War II. I’d love to see a recent photo of [...]

On Tuesday, we informed you on the passing of Captain John Mateyko, former commanding officer of Company M, 358th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division. BOOTPRINTS author, Hobert Winebrenner, served under Mateyko, from Hill 122 in Normandy through war’s end. The thing that probably stuck with Winebrenner most about his leader was Mateyko’s faith. Winebrenner recalled one [...]

In this edition of Letters From War Wednesday, we feature a short, September 1943, note home from Private Robert Jeffries, stationed with his unit in the Pacific. “I miss being back in the States, especially in good old Albion, Indiana. “I’ll try to send you my picture as soon as I can get off duty, [...]

I recently received the sad news that John Mateyko, former CO of Company M, 358th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division, passed away in Glenview, Illinois. Captain Mateyko took over charge of Company M following Captain Marsh’s death on Hill 122. Mateyko would prove to not only be an outstanding leader of men, but maybe even more [...]

Good Monday morning! For this edition of the 90th Infantry Division Pic of the Week, let’s return to Habscheid, Germany, for one of my favorite photos of all time.

On January 29, 1945, American troops returned to Bataan.  Company L, 152nd Infantry, 38th Infantry Division, commanded by Captain Wayne Sandefur, landed on the west coast of Luzon, near San Narciso.  “Always the unexpected happens in war,” Comapany L trooper, Clarence De Turk said, with a laugh.  “When we made our landing, we expected a [...]
