Weekly History Wrap-Up: 11/12/10.

Each, and hopefully every, Friday, the History Junkie plans on bringing you a weekly history wrap-up.  Just a bit of this and that—items that caught HJ’s eye over the week.

First up, as Gordon Lightfoot sings, “The church bell chimed, til’ it rang 29 times,” this past Wednesday to commemorate 35th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.  Memorial services were held at multiple locations across Michigan, most notably at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point.  Being a Midwesterner and frequent visitor to God’s country, this one hit close to home.  The fam and I actually visited the Shipwreck Museum several years back and highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

This Wednesday also marked the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.  Happy birthday USMC!  Oh where would we be without you?

Let’s hear it for the ladies!  The military is no longer just a gentleman’s club, as exemplified by the Musser sisters from Beaver County, PA.  Hey wait, HJ‘s family originated from Beaver County.  Maybe we’re related.

And, of course, this past Thursday, November 11, was Veterans Day.  HJ offers a hearty thank you and well done to all our Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen, past and present.  Veterans Day articles were abundant this week, but one of my favorites came from Ashley Dison over at Tech Talk.

HJ signing out.  Have a great weekend and see you on Monday.
