Another Good One is Gone: Howard Pemberton.

General James Van Fleet pins a second Silver Star on Howard Pemberton (right).

I just received word this week on the passing of decorated World War II veteran, and good friend, Howard Pemberton. Pemberton served in Northern Europe with Company M, 358th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division. Many of Pemberton’s actions are recounted in the book, BOOTPRINTS. His awards included a Bronze Star, two Silver Stars, two Purple Hearts and a battlefield commission.

Pemberton and his wife, Ardys, visited our home a few years back. I took my kids out of school so that they could experience visiting the World War II Victory Museum in Auburn, Indiana with two real-life war heroes, Pemberton and his war buddy, Hobert Winebrenner. It was something none of us will ever forget. Howard and Ardys also brought the kids souvenir cups from their home-state of Iowa.

Pemberton passed away on May 8. A grateful community and nation mourn his loss.

    Hello all!

I am the grandson of the late Henry “Porky” Rezac of Dante, SD. I have recently begun doing research to find out more about his life, as I don’t know much about him, or his stories from the war. All I have is his discharge papers. He was a jeep driver with Company M, 358th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division.

If you have any stories or pictures of him, please contact me as I would be very interested to learn more.

    Thanks,
    Phil
