  1. The roll call of 2001 tells only part of WWII’s impact on our village. Among the wounded was our brother, Jim, who was shot by Japanese in Okinawa. The bullet passed through his arm and shattered his knee. In a merciful mixup, he was hospitalized stateside before our mother was notified. We remember those sacrifices as well.

Fast forward to 2010: Jim died several years ago. Jack and Dor married 60 yrs, Don and Eileen 57 yrs, and Nancy’s husband passed away after their 50th anniversary.

Gene made his little sisters feel special and beautiful. She was only 9 and I was almost 12 when his memorial service was held. We’re great-grandmothers and cry when Taps are played.

  2. Jack Reynolds, the youngest of my three brothers, served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Rupertus/Guam. He was later an honorary member of the Tin Can Club. My baby sister Nancy’s husband, John Rohde, completed his military service (WWII/recalled to Korea) before they were married. My husband, Don Sheehan, was in Korea, Jan.1954-March 1955. After mentioning their names above, want to honor their service, too.
