In this edition of Letters From War Wednesday, we feature a short note from Private Charles E. Moore, who wrote home in October 1942, shortly after his transfer from Camp Grant, Illinois to Fort Lewis, Washington.
“Well, here I am away out in Washington and it sure is some swell country. We were 66 hours on the train coming out here. We had good meals and good beds. The army sure takes care of its soldiers.
“This is a big camp. They have everything the army needs to knock the hell out of those ****** rats.
“Don’t you fellows catch all the fish back there. Leave a few for me.”
