It’s Friday again.  Being a Hoosier and a huger college basketball fan (Boiler Up!), it might just be my favorite time of the year.  And time for the Weekly History Wrap-Up. Looks like Libya has opened up into a full-blown civil war.  How about a minute-by-minute account. I really … really love old cemeteries.  The [...]

Friday!  Friday!  Friday!  And the best part?  Time for the History Junkie’s Weekly History Wrap-Up. Tough question in D.C.  Where will the U.S. Navy Museum be located? Seriously, what did we do before the ratification of the U.S. Constitution?  How did we govern?  Can anyone say, Articles of Confederation? Yes, I’m man enough to admit [...]

More snow and ice this morning.  School’s canceled again.  Winter in late February … I’m over it.  Let’s put a lid on this past week with our Weekly History Wrap-Up. In 2000, a marker was erected in Pinal County, Arizona dedicated to all those who had earned the Purple Heart.  I like it! With all [...]

For the first Friday in a long time, the History Junkie can see grass, albeit brown and muddy.  But still, GRASS!  The snow is melting fast, surely in preparation for the next big storm. Forget about the weather.  Let’s talk history. Mark Caprio has written a very interesting piece on the Neglected Questions of the [...]

Friday!  Friday!  Friday!  And time for the History Junkie’s Weekly History Wrap-Up. Let’s begin with our Vietnam War Vets, and the Legacy of Agent Orange. Most libraries across the country maintain “special collections,” treasure troves of one-of-a-kind documents and items.  The problem has always been that one had to physically visit these libraries to access [...]

Friday again, and time for the Weekly History Wrap-Up. How about a comprehensive look at this week’s upheaval in Egypt?  Are we going to see a domino effect across North Africa and the Middle East? Jeff Jacoby makes a convincing argument for using mercenaries to help stabilize Somalia. How about a Tribute to our American [...]

The History Junkie is thankful for many things, including Fridays.  Time for the Weekly History Wrap-Up. Ever feel like a storehouse of largely useless, but very interesting information.  I’ve found the blog post for you, and me. Sargent Shriver’s funeral was held this week.  Rest in peace Sarg. The Rosenbach Museum and Library in Philadelphia [...]

Friday again?  Hells yes!  Before you all hit the road, how about a wrap-up of this week in history? Michael Swickard over an nmpolitics offered perspective on being an American. What happens to a veteran’s remains when they are unclaimed at the time of death?  Well, New York City has stepped forward to provide full [...]

What happened this week in history?  Anything interesting?  Hells yes! The History Junkie loves historical artifacts.  But I must confess that I hadn’t heard of this hidden treasure trove, The Military Museum of North Florida.  I’m definitely stopping in the next time I’m in the Sunshine state. Sad to see that the original model for [...]

Funeral services were held this week for local Marine, Lance Corporal William Crouse, killed on December 21 in Afghanistan. The remains of Air Force Major Thomas Beyer were positively identified and returned to the States for services.  Beyer’s aircraft was lost over Quang Tri, Vietnam on July 30, 1968. The Civilian Military Intelligence Group offered [...]
